trail

i walk that old trail
with hope to beat a little
the sugar count
but more to leave another trail

my walk along the river
with a little quiver
caused by my bone
not ready to fight a beaver

i return from my stride
excited like a bride
elevated by the groom
himself driving that ride

though it was only a coin
that i added to my loin
but sure there were hugs
and a kiss from that grass crown

songs

stranger’s friendly gesture, an associate’s

gracious act, a closer relative’s kind word

a gentle smile are those that indeed

in me provoke a song of delight

a simple betrayal, a calculated

crucifying, a determined denial

and with that an atrocious desertion

in me provoke a song of protest

words of wisdom, a provocative thought

a challenging message, an alternative

vision for that poor perishing universe

these provoke a song of inspiration

i write a poem

sometimes i quickly write a poem

when a dagger has pierced my heart

or a mercy has reached my soul

making it dance to rhythmic refrain

other times i struggle to pen a verse

when desire to discipline is high

or to daughter exhibit my brain

making her evolve into a genius

on occasion i compose rhyming lines

when my ego is bloated too big

to remain small, humble and modest

making easy and empty expeditions

feeling your feet falling

i stop to listen to the heartbeat
of those i serve, and those with whom
my life, due to a geographical
accident, is connected!

others, about this coincidence
suggest another perspective
calling, ‘a transcendental incident’;
but i fail to feel your feet, your pant!

as i, now, habitually name
you in your absent presence
there are those who protest
my naming as too comical!

many times in the past
of my life, i have seen defeat
of those who came to defeat
me standing defeated!

but i do not think victorious
in my mind inclined to shun pain
often, creeping like a leech to suck
my blood until i fall dead!

i stand here early this dawn
gazing at an empty sky grazing
for a star, or a cloud pattern
in which i may sense you

to lift up my drooping soul,
prompting my journey to continue,
until to you i return, or cease
complaining my emptiness!
