with gratitude

my body, like that reconditioned
japanese liteace, earlier, i owned
works beautifully well
pumping blood, poetically

as if crafting a Shakespearean sonnet
though the scars of the surgeon’s scalpel
on my left fore arm, left leg, and chest
could not be covered, unlike in my van

with white paint, a colour i cherish with black
to contrast my present moments of orientation
from that earlier instances of disorientations
that tore my soul with betrayals

painted and etched in my heart, as a Blakean art
while i was still in the intensive care
of the men and women dedicated
to establish that rhythmic beat

transcending the wrinkles
those character lines of my skin
suggesting a panoramic view of my life
dotted and sheltered with love

thunbergia mysorensis

is the name they gave me, a vine
with spectacular long chains
of yawning red and yellow flowers
and dark green foliage

my handsome features
and trail to success
were due to my sure anchoring
and climbing on my support

converting my stems to tendrils
i clung to my support to move
towards the sun that brightened the earth
bringing credit also to my name

but soon i forgot that support
to kick it hard as it aged and dried
while earlier, it was a tight clinging
to that that made me productive

soon, i know for sure, like my support
i too would age and dry to decay
then it would be too late
to express my gratitude to my support

Giving

We live
Not with
What we brought
But by
The generous giving
Of others

Even our being,
In short,
Is someone’s giving

By giving we live
By withholding we perish

In any case,
What we have
And what we are
One day
We will be giving

Therefore,
It is better
That we give today
And give that
Voluntarily

Give,
And give now

Give
Not so much what we have
But give
Just our-selves

Give,
And give now
We
Like the trees and the cattle
Give
Not only
For the deserving
But also
For the undeserving;

Today,
We give
The smile they need
The time they require

We give
Not for ourselves
But for others;
Therefore,
We give
Not for recognition
And not for manipulation;
We give
Not for acknowledgement

We give
To those who ask
And
To those who ask not

We give
Because
We believe
In life

And
We live
Only by giving
