take leave to hover

o my soul! leave this familiar desk
put aside the floppy disk
drive out of the city boundaries
picking up the pair of binoculars

go out my soul!
the land out there is vast
with landscape much varied
and it is summer time

your eyes and mind need to be tuned
on for machinery discarded and scattered
have lessons to teach
winds there too will sing their refrain

o my soul, yours is a fraction of eternity
let the music of birds enter your hall
driving out every evil in that tiny hell
but let your eyes be free to see afar

and nostrils too smell
away from the jar
let your feet walk where there is none
for what your fingers type will go in vain

o my soul! leave this familiar desk
put aside the floppy disk
drive out of the city boundaries
where space floats to let my soul soar

a courageous chase

i was scarcely seven! i remember

my father, a soldier, a thunder

chasing a burglar sneaking to thieve

chicken in middle of moon lit night

in that unlit rural village

the following morning others strutted

my father’s foolhardiness

as i chanted his courage

and when my daughter was seven

the same drama unfolded, demanding

my heroic act! but miles away

in this excessively lit hamlet

and i, a frightened chicken, woke my wife

to let the crook know occupants awake

to switch on security lights; others beamed

my wisdom as i cogitated my cowardliness

my excess

i betted
on an injured horse
again and again
calling her mine
despite her kicking
on my face
every time i bend
to tend her leg

battered
earlier by a spouse
with her passive aggression
taught me no lessons
on self-care
stupidly
for long
holding her hand

tattered
now, beyond limits
still a mouse
i have let into my heart
to roam
to nibble away
my body, mind and soul
to enjoy
my washing
of the growing tiny feet
