friends

i have friends in both camps

in which you are denied

and in that you are affirmed

i have some in that middle too

hence i easily walk in and walk out

into all camps, knowing too well

neither my aflame affirmations

nor my denials make your being

and what matters is my becoming

a friend affirming strengths inbuilt

for both affirmation,  or denial

of you beyond that fragile me in all

announcing your presence

your presence i seek beyond my thoughts

acknowledging your being, and i struggle
to connect also with your becoming
that is part of my own biography!

in my pain i see your pain; and in my joys

i enjoy your joys discerning and discovering
your faint presence wrapped up tightly
in my feeble presence that is spat upon

and trampled under the feet of those tall stout

and short and slim, the so-called elected
members of today’s Dunvegan  Sanhedrin
and i, now, wait for your risen presence

with patience and a new spirit of inquiry to walk

ahead beyond Golgotha into Emmaus to break
bread with Jesus for  my heart to glow and feel
a warmth as my tongue announces your presence!

 

mountaintop experience

i sat there on top of the mountain
unmoving like a rock
waiting as long as thirty five years
for an illuminating mountaintop experience

a transfiguration to happen, i hoped

one such as peter, james and john witnessed
with that man who walked to his gallows
courageously but only with his loin cloth

and suddenly there was smoking

spitting of also a little lava
but only for four days
before that volcano erupted with fire

brimstone, even saint patrick that day

could not protect me from her hot ash
emptying wallet and honoured existence
transforming me to a destitute

and in that new status

i deciphered my summit, my buddhahood
as i discerned the futility of that bottomless pit
i tried hard to build for my comfort
