too soon

a single Amaryllis bulb

into my Christmas gift did bump

like devotion to Christ

i, on time, with care did plant

blood-red flowers soon did bloom

delighting my heart

prompting fingers to photo-shoot

like fancying a young bride

too soon the wisdom of the astute

did knock on my door, my head

dollars in night dreams too fade

on waking like my drooped floret

brevity

in another three weeks

summer will be spent

providing space for fall

and soon it would be winter

forcing me to shut shutters

announcing me that secret:

brisk and brief is beauty

and bidding me to enjoy

lightning in lightning speed

merging

listening to the clicking of the clock

my mind comprehends life’s briefness

reminding me that as i pass week

month and year i’m closer to my grave

listening to the cawing of the crow

my body takes wings to fly to gather

without belittling the other gatherers

to fill belly that marches to my tomb

listening to cooing of the cuckoo

my being dances to unheard rhythm

merging into the world of dancers

until that final closing of the screen
